
Abhishek Singh is a 1995-batch IAS officer with extensive experience in public administration, law and order, development programmes, and policy formulation, with a particular focus on leveraging technology to improve governance. He is currently serving as Director General, National Informatics Centre (NIC), with additional charge as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), where he is responsible for areas including Artificial Intelligence, Emerging Technologies, and the Digital India Bhashini Division. He also holds the additional responsibility of CEO, India AI Mission. From 2019 to 2024, he served in several key leadership positions, including President & CEO of NeGD, MD & CEO of Digital India Corporation, CEO of Karmayogi Bharat, and CEO of MyGov.
Prior to his central government assignments, Abhishek Singh served in the Government of Nagaland from 2017 to 2019 as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, with additional responsibilities as Principal Secretary for Urban Development and Personnel & Administrative Reforms. He also served as Home Commissioner, Nagaland, in 2018. Between 2014 and 2017, he was the Executive Director at the Food Corporation of India (FCI), where he coordinated initiatives relating to information technology, engineering, and storage, while also holding additional responsibilities as Executive Director (North Zone) and Chief Vigilance Officer. Earlier in his career, he served in Nagaland and Uttar Pradesh, where he gained extensive grassroots administrative experience, implementing development programmes, managing law and order, collecting state revenues, and overseeing projects involving roads, irrigation, schools, hospitals, and responses to droughts, floods, and communal disturbances.
Abhishek Singh holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he was a Mason Fellow, and has completed his B.Tech and M.Tech from IIT Kanpur. His career has included close collaboration with international and multilateral organisations such as DFID, UNICEF, and WHO, including work on the Child’s Environment Project in Budaun and the Pulse Polio Eradication Programme in Uttar Pradesh. He has also conducted elections to the Indian Parliament, State Assemblies, and local bodies, and has worked closely with Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Governors on policy formulation and implementation. His experience spans the delivery of development and welfare programmes at the district level, with a strong focus on poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, digital governance, and technology-enabled public service delivery.
