Hitesh Solanki, 22, lives in a remote rural village and was born with a locomotor disability. Due to a lack of support, he dropped out of school at an early age and remained dependent on his family without access to work or income. Through the Rural Livelihood Program, Hitesh was connected to a self-help group and received support to obtain his identity documents and disability card, access a tricycle and pension, and build financial and livelihood skills. He went on to adopt climate-smart livelihoods such as vermicomposting, sticky traps and intercropping, earning his first income by selling vegetables and vermicompost. Today, Hitesh earns a regular income and actively contributes to his village cluster’s sustainability committee, supporting other persons with disabilities and their self-help groups.
