Mahendra Kumar is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Bihar cadre with extensive experience in public administration, governance, infrastructure, and policy implementation. He has recently been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, for a five-year tenure.

Prior to this appointment, Kumar served as Managing Director of the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), Patna, a position he has held since June 13, 2024. He has also served as Deputy Secretary at NITI Aayog under the Central Staffing Scheme.

Earlier in his career, Kumar held several key administrative positions in Uttar Pradesh, including District Magistrate of Balrampur, Chief Development Officer of Kanpur Nagar, and Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Smt. Anupriya Patel. His diverse experience spans district administration, development, public policy, infrastructure, and government–industry engagement. In his new role at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Kumar will contribute to corporate regulation, company law administration, and business governance reforms, areas that are central to India’s evolving corporate and economic landscape. Kumar holds a B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur.
