Ravi Sreedharan spent 23 years in the corporate world where he had become the CEO of HSBC in Indonesia, followed by 15 years dedicated to working in the social sector in India. He has been working relentlessly on one of India's least discussed challenges: who leads and manages the organisations that serve our most vulnerable communities. Ravi Sreedharan is a graduate of IIT-BHU Varanasi and IIM Ahmedabad. After a career with HSBC across Middle East and Asia Pacific, he quit his successful banking career to come and dedicate his life to bettering lives of children going to government schools across the country – he was part of the leadership team at Azim Premji Foundation for 5 years. He then decided to work in a school in a remote village in Kerala for a year. That experience convinced him of something simple but overlooked: India's social sector doesn't lack good intentions - it lacks trained leaders and managers to translate those intentions into impact. In 2016, he co-founded the Indian School of Development Management - ISDM. This is India's first institution dedicated entirely to building professional management talent for the development sector, much like IITs and IIMs did for engineering and business. Today, ISDM has trained cohorts of leaders now running and shaping organisations across the length and breadth of this country. He is quietly building what will not only be a pride of the country but also make a difference to society and the planet for generations to come.
