Shri Amit Shukla is an officer of the 1999 batch of the Indian Forest Service and has been serving as Joint Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Government of India, since October 2022. He has been closely involved with Team PMAY-G and PMGSY, supporting the implementation of rural housing and all-weather road connectivity, and has also worked on the department’s IT ecosystem. Previously, he served as Director, National Jal Jeevan Mission (2021–2022), contributing to efforts to expand access to piped drinking water in rural India.

Earlier, Shri Shukla served as Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Tripura (2019–2021), where he worked on forestry administration, e-governance, GIS and eco-tourism initiatives. He has also worked with the Government of India on higher education policy and reforms. He holds a B.Tech. in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and an Associate qualification in Forestry from IGNFA. He received the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2021 and three awards from IGNFA for academic excellence, all-round performance and wildlife management.
