Sonia is a determined entrepreneur living with 75% disability due to Muscular Dystrophy. She developed the condition while pursuing her B.Com, bringing significant physical challenges into her life. Despite these difficulties, she held on to her passion for creativity and handicrafts, dreaming of building a business of her own.
For nearly two years, Sonia struggled with depression and withdrew completely from the outside world, confining herself to a single room. Her life began to change when she was introduced to the Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneur Association (IDEA). Joining IDEA became a turning point, giving her access to business training, mentorship, funding, market exposure, and—most importantly—the confidence to believe in herself again.
Before joining IDEA, Sonia earned around ₹10,000 per month from her handicraft and artificial jewellery business. With IDEA’s support, she strengthened her skills in branding, sales, customer engagement, and online marketing. Her income gradually increased, and she now earns approximately ₹25,000 per month.
Her journey, however, is no longer just about her own financial independence. Sonia has dedicated herself to creating opportunities for other marginalised women. With support from IDEA, she received two rounds of funding—₹25,000 and ₹50,000—to establish and strengthen her Inclusive Self-Help Group, “Radha Krishna Jewellers.”
Today, Sonia is fully dedicated to Radha Krishna Jewellers, providing employment opportunities to 15 marginalised women. Depending on their time and level of engagement, these women earn between ₹8,000 and ₹15,000 per month. Through the SHG, Sonia is creating a supportive environment where women can earn an income, develop skills, build confidence, and gain greater independence.
Her own transformation is equally inspiring. From being confined to a room for two years, Sonia has rebuilt her confidence, expanded her business, and improved her living circumstances—moving from a 1 BHK to a 2 BHK home. More importantly, she has discovered a purpose that extends beyond her own success.
Sonia’s life goal is clear: to give confidence, dignity, and identity to marginalised women through entrepreneurship.
Her journey is a powerful example of how the right opportunity can transform a life. From overcoming her own challenges to creating livelihoods for 15 women, Sonia is not just building a business—she is building a community of empowered women.
